Hoidke nurinaid / Keep yourselves from complaining

2018. aasta septembri lõpu seisuga on Eestis 50750 liikumispuudega inimest, neist 17540 on vanuses 18-63 eluaastat.

I’ve always tried to be very compassionate towards other people but some kind of complaining to a person imprisoned in their own body (true – only partly, the pain of complete imprisonment is not familiar to me, thank God) is ashameful.

I understand that the restrictions due to this virus are tough to bear – shops and cinemas are closed, also the borders. So what?

Nobody can live their lives in usual manner – it is tremendously devastating, painful and suppressing, I know, I truly know! And herewith I really have little to say because I can walk a little using the cane, I can use one of my hands, I can eat myself and I can even breathe myself. But there are people who can’t do these things. Without help at least.

During my recovery I’ve get acquainted to many disabled people and I also met a man, a few years younger than me, who’s been really unlucky since birth and his body gives up funcions of his body dayly. Eventually his body gives up on his lungs as well – can you imagine the end of this? Still, I’ve never ever heard him complain – I’m not his real trustee, true, but still.

There was 50750 people with reduced mobility in September 2018 in Estonia. 17540 of them are of the age of 18 to 63 years. And 961 are even younger – some of them have never felt what the life of a healthy person feels like. Not for a single day!

It drives me mad that completely healthy people have the guts to complain of home-quarantine and closed coffee shops. People – it’s total impudence, don’t you think?

Toughen up, people, complaining doesn’t get you far (I’ve tried this :D). From the bottom of my heart I hope that some people who decide the legislation of disabled people can make conclusions from this devastating situation and find better solutions for peope imprisoned in their own bodies because the quarantine and restrictions don’t end for disabled people with this crises. They will continue.

People need to complain, of course – there are psychologists for that (they even get paid to listen to you) and they usually restrain themselves from offending you.

People – toughen up – for most of you this situation isn’t forever – as I’ve written here before, life’s highs and lows tend to alternate. There will be a new high, there will be!
